SIDING TYPES:

VINYL:

Vinyl siding is one of the most popular siding choices in North America.

There are several key benefits and types of vinyl siding that can protect, insulate and dress up your home. There are also many color choices and styles to choose from making vinyl siding an exciting choice for your home.
Here is a list of attributes that make vinyl siding a great choice.

AESTHETICS: This is one of the most obvious benefits. Vinyl will instantly boost a property’s visual appeal and it can also help increase the value of your house.

COST EFFECTIVE: Due to its composition, vinyl siding costs less than other siding materials like brick or wood.

LOW MAINTENANCE: As a synthetic material, vinyl siding can effectively deter pests like termites. It does not rot or split as it can resist moisture and will not rust, corrode, or warp over time. Moreover, it does not need repainting year after year.

VERSATILE: They come in a wide variety of colors, textures, and profiles. The choices are endless as there are hundreds of selections to look into. If you have an overall theme in mind, there will surely be something to match it.

WOOD SHAKES:

Cedar wood shakes or “shingles” as they’re also called, are a good option here in coastal Carolina. Not only will they give your home that classic “Outer Banks” feel and look, they have many natural benefits to them.
Cedar is a low-density softwood, meaning that it has an open cell structure, unlike many siding materials. This makes it a light wood that is easy for construction, as well as making it a terrific insulator. Because of the density, less heat is transported through the wood, keeping heat from escaping in the winter and the cool air from escaping in the summer. Similarly, as it reduces heat flow, it creates a natural acoustic barrier. Cedar is also a sustainable, durable wood, whether painted, treated or left untreated.

Cedar has natural antibacterial and antifungal properties, allowing you to leave the wood untreated without worry of excess warping, rotting and cracking. It does weather, though, changing color throughout time, offering a much more rugged look than stained cedar siding offers.

For those who like the stained look, cedar requires more maintenance than many other woods. To preserve the style as it is installed and first stained, you will need to re-stain or re-paint on a semi-annual basis. This is something to consider when choosing cedar shingles or siding.

JAMES HARDIE BOARDS:

Hardie Board siding is a durable form of siding on the market. Its composition of silica sand, cellulose fibers, and cement make it an extremely durable and long-lasting choice.

All forms of fiber cement have a level of resistance to the elements. The material is water and moisture resistant, and its durable makeup helps to prevent cracking. Strong winds cannot lift or damage the boards as easily as other materials.

Hardie Board is resistant to fire, pests, warp and rot and has a low maintenance factor. Hardie Board is typically a bigger investment and is slower to install but it’s durability and longevity typically outweigh these factors.

LP SMART BOARD:

LP SmartSide siding products are the most advanced engineered wood products on the market. Because of their proprietary blend of ingredients and composition, LP SmartSide is the most durable choice for your siding needs.

LP building products come in a variety of colors, uses and styles that include lap style siding, shake like siding, trim and fascia boards, panel and vertical siding and soffit.

Building in a coastal environment can be harsh with the extreme weather we experience. LP products are built to withstand high humidity, extreme heat, high winds (up to 200 MPH), flooding rain, hail and extreme temp swings such as freezing and thawing. They are also resistant to pests, warping, cracking fungal decay. All of these issues are factors when constructing in a coastal area such as the Outer Banks.
